Blog name soon to change to www.britchickruns.wordpress.com – don’t forget!
American people, help me!!
You know how I’m very very strongly thinking about postgrad study in the USA? I’m hoping to do a Masters in Clinical Psychology (and I believe it’s possible to take a few classes on the side too, in the US? If that’s true, I’d want to take something in nutrition or food or something – I’d love to ultimately work with eating disorders :)), but OH MY GOSH, how many unis does the USA have!? Crikey, I’m having a TERRIBLE time narrowing it down!! Sooo – are there any USA students/graduate students who could give me some advice on how to go from 1700 unis offering grad courses, to just 4-6!?
I’ve been on www.petersons.com and www.usaeducationguides.com, but it’s sooo hard. I also don’t get the money thing – am I right in saying graduate programmes are charged per credit? ie $500 per credit? And do graduates normally live on campus? Seriously, ANY advice would be welcome here!
Today wasn’t all full of confusion, oh no! MY PACKAGE ARRIVED!! Last weekend I ordered some funky food off of a health food website, and it finally came today:
My box of goodies contained….
Nutritional yeast! Yay! I’ve seen this all over the blog world recently, so I can’t wait to try 🙂
A millet dessert thing..don’t ask me to explain what it is cos I don’t know! I’ll do a big report when I have some 😛
All natural, healthy-as-healthy-can-be peanut butter cookies 😀
A soya dessert yogurt thing…
A CINNAMON-Y CEREAL! I can’t wait to tuck into this baby 🙂 PLus check out the fab protein and fibre content:
Amaze, no? There was also…
Multi-grain O’s with the old keeeen-MWAH 🙂 (x 2 – I accidently ordered two boxes…let’s hope I like it!)
A blueberry fruit bar thing, from Australia no less. They know how to groove up their fruit there, that’s for sure. Just ask Dannii Minogue. And finally…
…a Raw brownie! Again, can’t wait to tuck into that beast!!
For my afternoon snack, I knew I had to incorporate something new with my hot chocolate, so I had a peanut butter cookie:
GOODNESS ME! That thing was SO TASTY! It was almost like a cake crossed with a cookie…ie not snappy and crispy, but soft and melty..with a faaab-ulous PB flavour. I. LOVED. IT.
For dinner, I took a trip to Chinatown. Well, almost…it was just very Chinese-Japanese themed. I had some tofu marinated in cinnamon, soy sauce, hot sin, and this noodle sauce:
So it looked like this:
It was then cubed and then added in a big stir fry – I’d pre-roasted some broccoli, caulflower, parsnips and garlic (I really really can’t do even SLIGHTLY crunchy broocoli or cauliflower :s), so when it was out of the oven, I added it to some mushrooms, spring onion and spinach, and the tofu, and mixed it all about. I also threw in some soba buckwheat noodles (which I’d already boiled) and a load more of that noodle sauce, then served it all together in a big pile with a sesame seed garnish and added soy sauce! (phew, what a big sentence :p)
It was totally, amazingly delicious 😀
While I munched, I watched the pilot episode of Everybody Loves Raymond – has anyone else seen this show? Does it get good? I know the bloke who played Raymond ended up getting 1million dollars per episode…so I’m assuming it was a success!!?? Maybe it still is, I don’t know…They don’t show it on TV over here I don’t think :s
After dinner and the show (it was like a mini romantic date with myself :p), I made a huge amount of mess when my head exploded from too many universities spinning round it. It took a while to clean up!! But I obviously did a good job, cos I managed to type out this post 🙂
Plus, I had two strong motivators to piece my head back together –
The thought of my daily dessert – 2% Greek, a hot chocolate, and half a fairtrade dark chocolate bar:
And the fact that 8 Out of 10 Cats is on any second!! So, I’ll leave y’all with some kitten pictures – what else!? Enjoy 🙂
First of all, your new kittens are PRECIOUS! I love all those pictures!
Second, I totally agree that the US has a gazillion colleges! I personally live within 2 hours of probably 20 colleges. Ridiculous, but lots of options, right??:) I’m currently completing my Masters (Grad) degree online. It’s great for me because I teach full time (2nd grade) and it fits into my schedule. And yes, you can get a “minor” in something while you “major” in something else. I have an associates (2 year), 2 bachelors (4 year), and now almost my masters (GAHHHHHHHH!). Yes, I’m crazy, and no, I don’t think I’m done! Some day, way down the road, I’d love to work in a library!
For a local “plug”, The Ohio State University is an amazing university! Plus we have beautiful seasons here:) Good luck, let me know if you have more questions about Ohio universities! Sorry, this is more email length than comment length!
Hey, they show Everbody loves Raymond on 4 in the mornings about 6 months of the year and on E4 a lot too. I enjoyed it for a while and then got seriously sick of it! Cannot believe the guy got that much money an episode!
I did psych as my first degree and wanted to do a PHD in clinical and to do a masters in ABA in America but when I researched it there was just no way I could afford it. So now I am Primary teacher but I love it.
It is SO expsensive I agree! I’m hoping to get an assisstantship to help pay for it..if not then I’ll just be about $100k in debt!! At least clinical pays well 😛
1million/episode, mental!! I can see why the Friends cast got that each, but not sure about Raymond bloke yet….
Hmmm, I guess you could start narrowing down by looking at location/size of the schools that have your program of study there. Big or smaller school? Middle of nowhere or big city?
Also, most grad students I know live in off-campus apartments and walk or bike to school!
See I have no idea! Cities are exspensive BUT I like the idea of having so much to do, cos I live in the middle of nowhere at the moment :s
Ah that’s good about off-campus apartments – I really don’t like uni accomodation!
Hey! I know a lot about psychology graduate programs! I went to one..but not for clinical psych (don’t like to say what exactly I do on the blog, but send me an email and I will give more info). Anyway, I started out in a clinical masters, and I wouldn’t recommend that route. If you’re interested in clinical, I would advise going the PhD route. Although Clinical PhD programs are much more competitive than even med school. You need to do research, research, research in undergrad. Seriously, email me if you have questions!
😮 Expect an email from me in 5minutes!!
I LOVE nanas cookies and I eat that cereal almost every day!
Really!? Wow did you buy it in a store or get it online too?
wow the american uni things sounds intense!
but jealous time 2398949728 that you may be going over there!
hope you manage to sort it all out 🙂
also yay for the healthy food package, new health food products make me sooooo excited!
and Everybody Loves Raymond is goood 🙂
not the best but still funny and watchable.
it’s one G.O.L.D or Living or Comedy Central alot (can’t remember which one but i think Comedy Central)
and OMG HOW CUTE ARE THE KITTENS!!!!
i am not in any way an animal person but they are adorable 😀
Haha it’s a very big MIGHT at the moment! I can’t get my head round it all…:s
Yes, the kittens are the BEST 😀 They’re everything one would dream a kitten to be 😛
Aww, beautiful kitties!!! So sweet 🙂
Could you narrow it down by which areas of the country you might want to live in? I can totally see how that would be a very overwhelming process– don’t let it get the best of you!
At the moment, I’m thinking along the east coast someone (ie New York, Floride, Maine, North Carolina etc etc) purely cos the flight time is shorter to England, by about 4hrs I think! But the only place I’ve ever been is Washington DC, so it’s hard to tell….
The kittens are way too adorable. 😀
I would say, for the college courses, try contacting a school in the US that you’re interested in (even if you’re not planning to go for a while down the road.) They *should* have someone on staff who can explain these types of things or at least direct you to someone who does. I can see how that would be super confusing!!
Really good idea!! Thankyou 🙂
I am loving the kitty photos!! They are the cutest little things! Where did you buy your health foods from? Was it a UK based company?
Good luck with whittling down the US universities!
Yep it was – goodnessdirect.com/co.uk 🙂
Looks like christmas morning! I would love to try those quinoa o’s but they don’t look like they were purchased from a North American store 😦 Nature’s Path makes great stuff though, and as for Grad programs… Do you know what state you are looking at moving to?
Nah they were from the good old internet 😀
I’m thinking East Coast – New York, Maine, North Carolina, Vermont – all of that lot, cos the flight time is shorter to the UK 🙂 But then if there was an amazing school that’d take me elsewhere I’d go! I just don’t want to be in the deep south – too hot!
