RUNNING!
I discovered the joys of running in early 2009, and I think I’m proof that anyone can do it!! On my very first run, I puffed my way through 1 mile, being exhausted afterwards! Eventually, I managed 2miles, and OH MY GOSH, the feeling of achievement afterwards was incredible! However, I learnt my lesson (the hard way) that you should never train too much, too fast – I jumped from a 6mile run one week, to an 11mile the next week, and sure paid for it – a lovely foot injury. NOT GOOD. So I took some time off from it all, and picked it up again in September kind of time last year. I’ve taken training a bit slower now, so hopefully the injuries will be kept away…so far:
I’ve done one 10k run (54:45 – it was a tough race, soo much wind…wind is my RUNNING ENEMY!)
and I’m now entered for my first half marathon, on February 7th – I’m so excited!
I’ve now done one half marathon! In one hour, forty three minutes, my best time yet.
I was SO thrilled, and I can’t wait to do more! In fact, I have one on the 21st March….
My training programme at the moment consists of one mega run a week (I did 13miles last time – wowzer, that was a good feeling afterwards!), a day off (after the long run), and then roughly alternating days with intervals, medium runs, and cross training. Seems to be working alright so far…
One of my 2010 goals is to do a lot more races; it’s just a shame the area where I live isn’t exactly packed with many..but I can try!

Good luck on your half marathon. It’s just around the corner! Running = love.

Thankyou! I’m so excited, it’s so soon!! I’ve got my finger’s crossed for OK weather..!
Good luck for the full marathon! That’s such an achievement. Seeing your inspiring running journey and how far you’ve come I thought I’d ask your advice on how to get started running? I know it sounds pretty obvious but I mean, how often and what distance do you start with? How do you build up distance? How do you measure distance? Do you run with music? All those kind of things! I couldn’t find your email ad otherwise I would have asked that way. (I did do quite a bit of cross-country at school but haven’t run properly for ages so am back to square 1)
